Vacation Time

We all deserve vacation time. Vacation time is used to travel, to visit family, to do things that you couldn’t do while working, to clean closets, and we use up every minute of this time until it’s over. So is vacation really to relax? So when you go back to work are you tired? In reality, the answer is yes to both.

I love the beach in the summer.
Something about the ocean …

https://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/take+a+vacation. “To stop working for some period of time and spend that time for one’s leisure or pleasure, especially at some other place. …”

Let’s start with when to take the vacation time. Do you want to take a week or two? Maybe take two, one to get away, visit with family or friends, and one to do things around the house, do barbecue or just do nothing. A date is decided and then it becomes something to look forward to while you get up every day to go to work. Now to decide what you want to do. If it’s in the summer, beach time sounds good, if in the winter, snow sounds good.

My favorite vacation is beach time. There’s something about the ocean that is so soothing.
Winter fun in the snow with
family or friends or both.

Now that 2 weeks were set aside for vacation time a decision needs to be made on which week is for cleaning house, cleaning windows, update yard landscaping, running errands, clean up closet clutter, tune up car, and anything else you haven’t gotten around to do. Even if you have a maid, or someone to clean for you, there is always something that nags you that you want to clean. Errands we do every day, of course, but you still have to do when you have time off. And car repairs? You really don’t want to do this on the weekends. So the decision is easy, do all of the above on 1st week, and the 2nd week you relax.

No matter if you clean every day, there’s still something that doesn’t get cleaned in detailed.
Once a year cleaning windows is a major task.
All year you buy something new with the intention of clearing out clothes or shoes you don’t use any more. Then the closet starts breaking at the seams.

Now that it was decided what to do each week, you begin your actual planning. The first week it’s no brainer you have everything you need so now you schedule each day what needs to be done, but don’t spend more than 8 hours doing it. See the analogy? It’s your time off to do your personal things at home, which is also work. Give yourself same breaks you get when you are working. The only thing is that you are getting things done which didn’t get done before because of no time to do them before, like detailed.

The second week is for really giving yourself a vacation time. A well-deserved vacation time. Depending on the season you chose you make the arrangements or reservations. Vacation time well planned can truly give you the stamina you need until the next vacation. The time to to go to paradise whether it’s beach, snow or just being a tourist. Visit with family and friends.

Enjoy the sun. Nature at its best.
Quiet time is so satisfying

Yes, you are tired when you go back to work because you did so many things in a 2 week period, so what? You accomplished so many things, you feel satisfaction, and you took time out for yourself. So do the relaxing on the weekend.😁

Relax on Weekend (after your vacation time)

Live, Love, Laugh. It’s your life and well being that’s important.

Strength of Will Power

Looking in our social media and getting caught up on our family and friends activities makes you want to do something different, doesn’t it? Specially things that is at our reach, which we should be doing and we have been procrastinating to do. One example is working out and eating healthy. So what’s stopping you, or better yet what’s your excuse?

I can answer this question because I’ve been there, actually I’m still there. Only difference is I deal with it as a planner. On a day to day basis. Whatever I put on the calendar to do I force myself to do it. I am visual when it comes to doing things. Google blank calendar images for each month and start your new routine.

Decide what you want to do, and write it down. Today is a good day to start.
July is the heart of the summer. Beach time, picnics, BBQs, family and friends gatherings. You want to wear comfortable clothes and bathing suits. And mist of all you want to look and feel great!

Writing it down is your first step, what follows to make it happen is strength of will power. Sigmund Freud said “Out of your vulnerabilities will come your strength”.

“Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from indomitable will”, Mahatma Ghandi. Anyways, I convince myself that I want to do something, I write it on my calendar and I find the strength of Will power to do it. So far, this works for me.

Today was one of those days that I needed to push myself out of bed, get dress for running and go running. It was on my calendar to run, so I had run. I usually wear a race track shirt and since it was overcast I tried my new long sleeves dry-fit shirt. Only because I am getting so burned by the sun.

I found my strength of will power
because I looked for it.
Look for yours and you will find it.

The only thing that stopped me from running my 8 miles were those clouds behind me. It started with little scattered rain drops, and before it down-poured I headed back home. Instead of 8 miles I only did 3.34 miles. 🙂

Practice What You Preach … Status on Weight Loss Journey … Challenge Yourself … Re-Organize Your Daily Schedule

It’s been a month since I have written any new blogs in regards to weight loss. On my 1/6/2021 blog (Proceeding in my Weight Loss Journey) I mentioned my commitment to the weight loss journey I have been on since April 7, 2020. I truly believe that whatever I say I make sure I practice. Therefore, making me accountable to me and to you. It has not been easy at all and I will tell you that it can be done if you are determined.

1 shake for breakfast, 1 shake for dinner.
Snack in the morning with Herbalife tea with Aloe.
My healthy, clean eating meal is at lunch time. Another snack in afternoon with Herbalife tea. Then dinner is a Herbalife nutritious shake with protein.

To begin I want to let you know that I have lost 5 of the 10 pounds I gained over the holidays. I simply began to follow my Herbalife eating plans, shakes, snacks, etc., I re-started my daily workouts in the morning, I re-started attending Zumba classes, I began running consistently, I signed up to the One Thousand Miles Run Club (1KRC), and finally I signed up to a half marathon on February 2022. At first it was overwhelming because these were not on my schedule of things to do. Once I incorporated all and organized myself, it became easier to manage, and I now have time to write on my blog.

1/9/21 the re-starting of my running
and healthy eating habit.
1,000 miles of running or walking challenge,
to be completed through 12/31/21
Zumba, great workout and very therapeutic.
This will be my 26th half marathon in 8 years.

Sometimes we become too comfortable in our ways that we do not open our options to do other things, and this is what was happening to me. The holidays were great, but between the eating, drinking, parties, the exercises were just a balance. Now with a combination of both being mindful of my eating and drinking, and exercising and running, I am back on track. I am challenging myself by incorporating all these different activities in my schedule.

In the month of January I became unstoppable.
It was not easy. I was, and I am determined to continue my healthy, and weight loss journey.

I began with my Herbalife eating plan, I continuously followed it, but ate things that I knew would not allow me to loose weight. Now I am back to my one good and healthy meal a day, the healthy snacks, and tea, and 2 nutritious Herbalife shakes. How I lost my weight in the past, was following this plan and doing my workouts, including weights, in the morning before my day began. Therefore, it is exactly, what I started doing. Again, I emphasize that I went through many struggles, it was not easy but I could not go backwards, and saying that to myself kept me going forward.

I love to dance, and being a Zumba instructor gave me joy when after each class I felt like a 2 hour workout was completed, and it was only 1 hour. I am not teaching now, it takes time to choregraph, and right now I do not have time. So I went to my next choice, attend Zumba classes 3 days a week, in the evenings. These classes not only gave me a good workout, but it was like therapy, I just followed the instructor. The instructor knowing that I am a Zumba instructor has asked me several times to do 1-2 songs in her class. I told her I would consider it, and I will make this another challenge, but now right now.

Since I re-started running, and I accepted the challenge of running/walking 1,000 miles through 12/31/21, I decided to take a step further, and sign up for a half marathon on February 2022. The way I see it, I am already training for the half marathon by trying to reach 1,000 miles in the year. Challenging myself is a way for me to keep active, not fall out of my weight loss journey, and organizing myself so not to be overwhelmed. It also keeps me from being depress seeing how the Pandemic is causing so much destruction. I just take it one day at a time by being mindful of my eating, drinking, exercising, running, and by doing this I keep myself from not gaining weight, just getting fit, and staying healthy.

I am a half marathon runner, and I have completed 25 races through March 2020. When I decided to not do any more half marathons was because I was slacking to doing nothing with my training. The lack of training killed me when I was on mile 8 trying to complete the 13.1 miles in the race. So no more races unless I had a good, and steady training. It is why I signed up to the One Thousand Miles Run Club (1KRC), which was a challenge to complete 1,000 miles through 12/31/21. I accepted the challenge, and began to run some mornings, and on weekend.

I started my run late today, after it rained, so it was muggy and humid. But I completed the run and my total miles through today is 41.06. I have a long ways to reach 1,000 miles but the only way I will not reach it is if I stop. And I am not stopping.

Sometimes there are many obstacles in our way, and the only way to overcome them is to face them and do something about them. My personal journey above can only show you that when there is a will, there is a way. Never disregard or set aside something you can do to improve yourself. No one else can or will do it for you.

Starting is the biggest challenge!
Continuing becomes a on-going project.
Give yourself options, open your
mind to other opportunities.

Blood is the Best Gift

The best gift we can gift anyone is blood, we can save many people’s lives. There are millions of people in need of blood, many get blood transfusions. One of those people was my mother, because of some, or many donors, their blood saved my mother’s life. Her Hemoglobin was so low, due to a leak of an ulcer, very little blood was pumping into her heart, and she could have died. She received blood transfusion for 24 hours. I am a religious blood donor, and after this incident I do it on a more regular basis. I am very thankful to God for my health, for my mother’s recovery, and by donating blood, I am paying it forward.

Donating blood is giving back to the community, to those who need help. The blood from blood centers are utilized to the max in hospitals and/or medical centers, for trauma and burned patients, organ transplant recipients, low hemoglobin, cancer patients, premature infants, and many more. When donating blood, you are also being screened or tested for cholesterol, sugar, antibody, and many more things. If the antibody is positive you can help one or more COVID patients.

“Along with helping save lives, there are a number of reasons why donating blood is important. 1. A single donation can save three lives. One blood donation provides different blood components that can help up to three different people. 2. Blood cannot be manufactured. Despite medical and technological advances, blood cannot be made, so donations are the only way we can give blood to those who need it. 3. Blood is needed every two seconds. Nearly 21 million blood components are transfused in the U.S. every year. 4. Only 37 percent of the country’s population can donate blood. 5. Your friends or family may need your blood someday.” For more facts and statistics visit redcrossblood.org.

It is an honor to be able to donate blood to save a life, or 2, or more, with the blood that you donated. It can be considered an act of kindness and compassion. There are 3 types of blood that can be donated, red blood (takes about 5 minutes), platelets (takes about an hour), and plasma (takes about 1:15 minutes). The plasma is used for patients with a specific condition, platelets are mostly used for cancer patients receiving chemotherapy.

I was not aware that donating blood had health benefits for the donor. “Regular blood donation is linked to lower blood pressure and a lower risk for heart attacks.” “It definitely helps to reduce cardiovascular risk factors,” says Dr. in healthmatters.nyp.org. As I researched this further, I learned that it is healthy to donate blood.

“Fact: Blood donation does not cause weight gain. In fact, the process your body undergoes to replace the blood or plasma that you donate burns additional calories. While this calorie burn is not significant or frequent enough to cause weight loss, it certainly does not cause any weight gain.” www.carterbloodcare.org

If blood centers or buses, follow the regulated guidelines it is very safe to make any type of blood donations.  After being screened and you can donate blood, do it, it can save a life, or many.  Donate blood, feel the satisfaction that it will help someone out there stay alive. Think about it, it could be your life you are saving too.

Proceeding in my Weight Loss Journey

I have previously written 3 other blogs regarding my Weight loss journey: 1) My Weight Loss Journey Began, 2) My Weight Loss Journey Continues, and 3) My Weight Loss Journey is a Lifestyle Change. Mostly I am telling you about my story of why I started this journey, and the obstacles in my journey. Will you tell me your story?

There are so many persons struggling with weight loss, and going through it myself, I know that it is not easy. This is my purpose for sharing these stories, to be letting everyone know that it can be done.

I am still navigating the weight loss roads, and I will get to my destination, with endurance and consistency. Enduring the sacrifices of changing my eating habits, and the consistency of sticking to my nutritious healthy eating plan. Give it a chance, and little by little, you will reach your weight loss goal. Motivate yourself, do it for your health, do it for yourself, and/or your family.

Once we hit a certain age, our metabolism changes, and our muscles get weak. In order to defy this process we must exercise, and eat the right foods. The right nutrients and any sort of exercise can help with the muscles. This provides you with strength and energy, which leads to being fit, and staying fit. The benefits are higher than the drawbacks. Decide to start and just continue.

Running and Zumba.
My choices for cardio exercises.
What is your?

Mayo Clinic describes Zumba as, “ Zumba is a fitness program that combines Latin and international music with dance moves. Zumba routines incorporate interval training — alternating fast and slow rhythms — to help improve cardiovascular fitness.”

Four days ago I re-committed myself, to proceed on my weight loss journey, with nutritious meals, and exercises. I include dancing in my workouts. I love dancing, and for the past 9 months I ran and danced for my cardio workouts. My favorite is Zumba fitness, it is dancing and working out at the same time. Also, Zumba’s H.I.T.T., Strong Nation, program.

My last 2 half marathon in 2020

Sometimes we convince ourselves by thinking that “eventually I will lose the weight”, or “I’ll exercise to burn the calories”, or “I ran a half marathon so I can eat anything I want today”. The latter is what I thought every time I did a half marathon, and that was 25 half marathons, in 8 years. I was so wrong in thinking this, because running 13.1 miles you do lose some pounds, and burn fat, but not if you ate the wrong things afterwards. Now I look back, and if I would have used my training and half marathons as part of my weight loss, I would have been so happy. I still run, and now I know better, I stick to my meal plan.

Exercising throughout the day. Every hour get up and do a 60 seconds workout (I use my phone timer). These are the exercises I do, and change it to others when I get bored.

Hate is Such a Strong Word

Why do many people use the word ‘hate’ so much? Pretty much for everything they dislike, “I hate that team”, “I hate that coach”, I hate the car”, “I hate to take my picture.”“I hate this …”, “I hate that …”. Hate, hate, hate ….

Merriam-Webster dictionary defines hate as, “1 : extreme dislike or disgust : hate. 2 : ill will or resentment that is usually mutual : prejudiced hostility or animosity old racial prejudices and national hatreds”— Peter Thomson.

Reading this definition explains the person’s frame of mind. Many forms of hate are poisoning our world, our communities, our schools, our neighborhoods and our families. Some forms of hate mentioned will be Discrimination, Hate crimes, Racism, Hate speech, and Bullying.

Discrimination is the act of making unjustified distinctions between human beings based on the groups, classes, or other categories to which they are perceived to belong. People may be discriminated on the basis of race, gender, age or sexual orientation, as well as other categories..” Wikipedia.

Oxford Languages defined Hate crime as, “… a crime, typically one involving violence, that is motivated by prejudice on the basis of race, religion, sexual orientation, or other grounds.”

The Federal Bureau of Investigation definition is, “A hate crime is a traditional offense like murder, arson, or vandalism with an added element of bias.”

Racism’s definition by Oxford Languages is “… prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against a person or people on the basis of their membership in a particular racial or ethnic group, typically one that is a minority or marginalized.”

Hate speech, “… abusive or threatening speech or writing that expresses prejudice against a particular group, especially on the basis of race, religion, or sexual orientation.” Oxford Languages.

Bullying, “ … seek to harm, intimidate, or coerce (someone perceived as vulnerable).” Oxford Languages.

Now that I got all these definitions, what is the common denominator of the word ‘hate’? It is the race. Is it because everyone that is different from us triggers the hate word? Imagine a world with everyone looking the same, liking the same, dressing the same, how boring will that be?

Wikipedia describes race as “A race is a grouping of humans based on shared physical or social qualities into categories generally viewed as distinct by society. The term was first used to refer to speakers of a common language and then to denote national affiliations. By the 17th century the term began to refer to physical traits.”

In a perfect world, everyone would accept everyone as they are and live happily ever after, right? So why can’t this happen? Hate is a strong word that should be eliminated from the vocabulary. Hating or disliking someone or something does not mean it can be an act of meanness or hatred. Trying to change those that are not the same race or religion as you, takes so much effort, than to just let it be, as is. Focusing on oneself should be the priority rather than finding faults or antagonizing others. Live Love Laugh!

The race of an individual has nothing to do of who they are, they are born where they are born. The sex orientation, religion, gender and age defines that individual. That individual will either be beautiful or nasty inside, and that is a talk for another day.

Live and let live. So if it’s indifferent just let it be, no acting or action is needed. Why try to change and/or control others that are different from you? The inner side of that individual is more important than the outer side. A variety of races in this world makes the world more interesting.

If anything this Pandemic has taught the world, is that we are all connected. We are fighting the same virus, and we are going through same economic issues. Unity, Peace, Love, and Happiness. No more discrimination, no more hate crimes, and no more racism.

What Goes Up Must Come Down

Isaac Newton said “What goes up must come down.” Of course he was referring to gravity, like anything you throw up will fall down . Can this quote apply to other things or moments in our lives?

Most recently the Christmas trees were put up, all the ornaments went up, all the lights went up, and the angel was on top. Almost 2 weeks after Christmas everything came down, leaving the tree bare, original and simple. In other words, it wasn’t gravity this time, the analogy of something that was up and now it came down.

How about the egos? Ignorance can make our egos go up, by getting illusive or impractical notions. After a while realization takes place, and the downfall could be hard. So while the ignorance got the ego high in the clouds, reality can knock the ego to the ground.

Being practical and fair can prevent the undoing of an ego. Just being who you are is better than being a fake. No altered ego, just the simple original state, without pretending to be someone else.

In other words, talking negatively about people, gossiping, or judging people. It is like spitting up, and it backfires, all that spit comes down, like a waterfall. Some call it karma. At an early age everyone is taught to not be mean to others, to be nice to others, and it will make you a better person. Practicing this lesson will make a better world. What goes up must come down, or around, one way or another.

A quote by Eddie Stone’s book, Donald Writes No More, in 1974, “What goes around, comes around.” In other words, whatever you give, comes back to you in some way or form. Therefore, treat everyone as you would like to be treated, and nothing will come down on you, only good things will come back to you.

Only thing that goes up
and does not come down.

How to Begin

Just like that the holidays are over, we are in the new year, and we start working on our New Year’s resolutions (if they were made). There are 5 things you must do, to start, if you chose to lose weight in the new year. 1. Inspiration, 2. Change eating habit, 3. Start exercising, start with 20 minutes a day, 4. Accountable to someone (besides yourself), 5. Dedication. Health and Fit formula: MOTIVATION + ENCOURAGEMENT + COMMITMENT + DEDICATION = SUCCESS

I want to share an abbreviation of my story of how to begin, how I began, with you. I was a Herbalife distributor for many years but I was off, and on, with the the meal plans. Seasonal, I called it, because I would want to lose weight either for an occasion or the summer.

It all began when I wanted to lose 20 pounds, so on 4/7/20 I decided to join a 21 day challenge with a Herbalife group. I used the products, and followed their recommended meal plan(s). 17 weeks later, I had lost a total of 15 pounds. It could have been more …. some cheat meals here and there … prevented it.

Getting back on track was always hard but for 5 more pounds, I was determined to do it. In the process I became a supervisor. Therefore, in a way I wanted to pay it forward, and help those that find it difficult to lose the extra pounds.

My story and pictures are on my website, http://www.mjrhealthfitnessbeauty.com). I ended up losing 21 pounds in 8 months. I surpassed my goal but then changed my goal to 25 pounds, from 20. In my previous blogs I have also wrote and posted pictures about my weight loss journey. Between November and December ‘trying’ certain foods, and sweets, and ‘drinking’ certain drinks I can feel some weight came back. Nope, I am not going on the scale until I go back to my Herbalife eating plan, which will be tomorrow. 😊

In diet magazines you read about quick diets, and getting the weight that was lost back. In Herbalife it is a slow process in losing the weight and at the end it will take a while to gain back. The Herbalife weight loss plan is a eating habit change, not a diet.

The Herbalife Nutrional plan worked for me, and I will continue to be on it, until I am satisfied in reaching my ultimate goal of 25 pounds. In the Herbalife plan, 2 meals are replaced with nutritional shakes. Of course, there is one nutritious, and clean eating meal that you can have. And snacks, and teas are also in the plan.

If the plan is followed correctly, you can lose an average of 4 pounds in a week. In reality, you will always be in a weight loss journey or weight loss maintenance journey. But, we get to wear clothes that we want, and we will be healthy in the process. Mindfulness of our eating will be the only way to keep the pounds off.

I read that “Research is lacking on the long-term benefits of meal replacement shakes, but at least one study suggested that they may help to prevent weight gain over several years.”

A New Year, A New Beginning, Start Positive

Where to start the 1st day of ‘my’ New Year? Well, I started at one of my happy places, sitting at a balcony, where I am staying today, watching and listening to the waves roaring, and the breeze lullying me to a nice relaxing trance.

While sitting looking at this view I realized that I need to make time, for anything, and everything, I want to do. Starting with all of those little projects that I have been procrastinating to do. One day at a time. No negativeness from now on. Find a positive in every negative.

Sitting, and just relaxing, a must for
my days to come in the New Year. Making time will be my priority.
What will yours be?

Starting a new year, and a new beginning being positive will provide confidence. And with confidence comes hope in anything one is determined to do. Waking up and feeling grateful for everything that one has is a great way to start the day.

The mind is very powerful and can control your body. “Mind over Power”. Being positive overpowers the mind. If the word can’t is eliminated from our vocabulary, think of every possible thing you will succeed in.

Removing “can’t” and replacing it with “possible”, will provide
hope and confidence.
Being negative takes more effort that being positive. Try it, and you’ll agree.
Thinking positive will help in
achieving goals, keeping hopes
high, and leading to success.
Confidence is acquired in behavior. Creating a mantra saying “I can do it” will boost the comfort zone, and increasing the confidence level.

Being visual helps, it helps everyone understand and relate to whatever the topic is written. Displaying photos of your goals will help. It is the reason why I write and provide images. The images will continue with my thoughts, without adding additional words to my blog.

Last Day of the Year

Today is the 365th day of the year, the last day of the year, the end of 2020. A year that destroyed the economy, a year that politics because a foul word for many, a year that many died due to a virus, a year that discrimination was beyond belief, a year with so much violence, and a year that our children will never forget. I am sure there were also a few good things, specially if you did not get the virus. Let’s be very thankful for that good thing!

It is incredible how the days, weeks and months went by so fast. Even before the Pandemic this fast-paced-cycle was taking place. Only the Pandemic made it more memorable, and not in a good way.

2020 will be in the history books, and many will never forget. Including from the lives that were lost to our children, and grandchildren being educated virtually because they were not able to physically attend school.

Reflecting on some events that has taken place, good, and bad. Not necessarily in the order that they happened, or appears below:

Virtual school … social distancing
Some humor into this chaotic time.
Christmas Day, Nashville, TN bombing.

As we start the New Year tomorrow, I pray for peace amongst all races. I pray for world peace, and a world to unite. Didn’t the world just shared a dreadful disease? Why not share good things too? I pray for COVID-19 to disappear, and no more viruses to appear. I pray for everyone to be healthy again. I pray for love and prosperity. I pray that our President leads the country to success, help small businesses rebuilt, and fulfill all the promises he made in his campaign.

Even though the ball in NY is being built, and will be dropped tonight, it will not be the same as last year. Jennifer Peltz, NBC News wrote “From New York’s Times Square to Sydney Harbor, big public blowouts are being turned into TV-only shows and digital events. Fireworks displays have been canceled from the Las Vegas Stripto the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. Even private parties in some places are restricted.”

For those that have survived financially, for those that are healthy, and for those that are still alive, being thankful is what’s important. There are many that were not as lucky. Restarting, rebuilding and moving forward will be the key to the New Year, 2021.

COVID-19 vaccine.

About the New Year’s resolutions list that you made already, or will be making … If you had Exercise, Eating healthy, and getting fit, you are off to a good start in the New Year. Being healthy you can accomplish and fulfill everything else. Don’t worry, and be happy. May the New Year bring you health, love, happiness and prosperity! Happy New Year!

Looking forward to a
better year in 2021.
